Material created or accumulated by the Honourable Andrew Telegdi related to his life and career. Records in this fonds document Telegdi’s early career as a bistro owner and rock music promoter in British Columbia as well as his experiences as a student at the University of Waterloo. In addition, the material records his work as an Executive Director for Youth in Conflict with the Law. Most notably, the fonds documents Telegdi’s extensive political career as a City and Regional Councillor as well as a Member of Parliament. Additional records capture Telegdi’s post-political career and personal activities.

Materials created or accumulated by Bettie Bernice Wilson and related to her years in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division (1942-1945). Includes photographs of instruction and training sessions, of facilities, of graduating classes, and of Wilson and her colleagues; official documentation and ephemera related to Wilson's service and different events she attended; writings by Wilson and her colleagues; related newspaper clippings, and correspondence sent and received by Wilson.

Material relating to the personal and professional life of the Bolender and Ball families. Includes photographs, correspondence, ephemera including material relating to the Second World War and missionary work done in Nigeria in the 1950's.

The Breithaupt Hewetson Clark collection includes family papers the three families named; the Breithaupt family, the Hewetson family, and the Clark family. Made up of over several hundred cubic feet of archives, about 12,000 photographs, several thousand printed items and a large group of "subject and topical files" as well as plans, maps and drawings.

The largest set of family records are those related to the Breithaupt family of what is today Kitchener with the earliest documents being from the period of Liborious Breithaupt's emigration in 1843. A small group of family papers collected by Spencer Clark contains material on the Clark and Alexander families. Other families including the Devitt family of Waterloo and the Davis family of Brampton are also represented in the collection.

Also in the collection are records related to the Guild of All Arts (now the Guild Inn) in Scarborough, Ontario from its inception in 1932 to the 1980s. Founded by Rosa Breithaupt Hewetson Clark and Spencer Clark, the Guild began as a co-operative crafts community, and evolved primarily as a hotel and conference centre. In addition to Guild records, the Breithaupt Hewetson Clark collection holds smaller collections acquired by the Breithaupt family and by Spencer Clark. The personal library of Spencer Clark, which includes many books, periodicals, government documents, and ephemeral items, was donated together with the archival collections, and is particularly strong in the fields of urban planning, architecture, and Canadian art.

Materials include family papers from three families, the Breithaupt family, the Hewetson family, and the Clark family; records from the Guild of All Arts in Scarborough, Ontario, founded by Rosa Breithaupt Hewetson Clark and Spencer Clark; and several smaller collections acquired by the Breithaupt family and by Spencer Clark. Includes records related to Cameron’s military training, uniform and personal gear, and service overseas. Also contains records related to Cameron’s time held in custody as a prisoner of war as well as his liberation and repatriation home to Canada and his life in later years.

Materials created or published by Canadian Liberal organizations and ministers during the World Wars and between. Includes materials created during opposition governments and Liberal governments, especially those with Prime Minister Hon. William Lyon Mackenzie King. Most materials directly relate to the Hon. W. L. Mackenzie King, including speeches, addresses, and different public and private events. Also includes materials created by the Hon. James Horace King, M.P., and the Hon. James Joseph McCann, M.P.

Fonds consists of textual and graphic materials created or accumulated by members of the Clement and Bowlby families, largely photographs of extended family members and materials created or accumulated by William Pope Clement and Florence Grace Clement. Also contains clippings, correspondence, genealogical records and research, textiles, artifacts including First World War medals, and other ephemera.

Records relating to the administration, operation, products, and history of Electrohome Limited and its subsidiary companies, as well as its predecessors, Pollock-Welker Limited, the Grimes Radio Corporation Limited, and the Phonola Company of Canada Limited. Includes letters patent and by-laws, share certificates and registers, board of directors' minutes, legal records, financial statements, correspondence, memoranda, advertisements and product literature, internal and external publicity materials, news releases and press kits, press clippings, speeches, sales kits and manuals, photographs and other visual materials, ephemera, architectural and technical drawings, sound recordings, computer disks, and artifacts.

This fonds documents a social and family history spanning almost one century. It revolves primarily around three women: Elizabeth Smith Shortt, and her daughters, Muriel Clarke and Lorraine Shortt. The fonds contains family correspondence, 1880 - 1970, general correspondence 1876-1970, manuscripts, diaries, typescripts, pamphlets, clippings and photographs.

Correspondence includes Cecil B. and Senator E.D. Smith, the Smith and Shortt family letters, Adam and Elizabeth Shortt love letters, but primarily correspondence during and after the war period between Elizabeth, her daughters Muriel and Lorraine, until Elizabeth's death in 1949. Letters follow Elizabeth Smith through Queen's University, her role in formation of the Queen's Medical School for women, her concern with local and national councils of women, and a variety of clubs, commissions, and organizations. Correspondents includes Augusta Stowe-Gullen, Dr. Jennie K. Trout, Eliza Fitzgerald, Lady Ishbel Aberdeen. Also present are 15 manuscript diaries kept by E. Smith Shortt covering the period from 1872-1932 (typescript available for first 8 diaries). Diaries 1892-1911 are memoirs of Shortts' European trips. 23 diaries or day books kept by Lorraine Shortt from 1912-1943 are also present.

The fonds contains also approximately 50 manuscript addresses, reports and speeches given by Elizabeth Shortt, as well as speeches by Lorraine Shortt. About 100-150 pamphlets and leaflets on a variety of subjects document Elizabeth's interests and activities, especially war period and restoration, National Council of Women, Mother's Allowance Commission, etc. Also present are clippings from 1800-1960, original and photocopied newspaper and magazine clippings and articles arranged under about 50 headings dealing with the Shortt and Smith families, and with a multiplicity of organized groups that formed at the turn of the century. Miscellaneous documents include notebooks of Elizabeth Shortt's subjects at Queen's Medical School, certificates, records of investments, bank records, war medals, autograph books, and scrapbook belonging to the family. Photograph albums and approximately 100 loose photographs of family and friends complete this fonds.

The Forbes family fonds contains records related to the Forbes, Buck, Land, Wilson, and Kaufman families, predominately created, and accumulated by Betty Forbes. The material primarily documents the personal lives of Millicent Lyall Forbes, George Alexander Forbes and their twin daughters Betty Forbes and Peg Forbes in Hespeler (now Cambridge), Ontario. This includes items related to their education, careers, and recreational activities such as camping. In addition, the fonds contains material related to extended family members and friends. Records include correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs and photograph albums, press clippings, ephemera, diaries, and notebooks.

Fonds consists of four notebooks kept by Frederick Arthur Edmonds as diaries as well as a typed transcript. The notebooks include details regarding Edmonds' experiences during WWI.

Fonds consists of one 141 page carbon typescript of "Among the beavers: Canadians and others" by Gladys Lillian King. The work is a personal narrative of the work done by the Military Women Police in and around the Beaver Hut in the Strand, London. Also includes two photographs of King with others.

Fonds consists of the correspondence of H. Stanley Smart to his family in Grassie, Ontario, written while he was stationed in England during World War II. Includes letters, airgraph letters, postcards, a telegram, and a roll of honour. The correspondence covers Smart's time in Europe from the first letter after his arrival in England (dated December 20, 1942) to the last letter before he sailed back to Canada (dated December 19, 1945), and describes his daily activities, training, social outings, leaves, health, and general news about the war.

The correspondence describes Smart’s daily activities, training, social outings, leaves, health, and general news about the war. He writes frequently about the food at the camp and the availability and quality of items such as cigarettes, chocolate, shaving soap, socks, stationary, and other personal items; he requests various items to be sent from home. He describes the countryside, the training he receives at camp, and various aspects of his duties, and comments frequently on his health and finances.

He also writes about his social life, including outings to town, dates with women, movies, night clubs, and restaurants, as well as dances and dinners at the army camp. Smart shares with his mother his thoughts and feelings about girlfriends at home and the women he dates in Europe. He becomes particularly close with a woman from Salisbury named Elise who is engaged to another Canadian; they spend much time together and remain friends after she is married and has a child. Descriptions of his travels to places such as London and Edinburgh while on furlough are also significant.

Smart also responds to news from home and comments on the activities of family and friends in the Grassie community. He inquires about the farm work at home (much of which appears to be done by his sister) and describes farming practices he sees in England. He also comments from time to time on the role of women in the army and in society, Christianity in the army, and the general progress of and reasons behind the war.

Materials relating to the professional and personal life of Harry J. Byers. Includes biographical documents, including his passport and WW1 papers, ephemera, clippings and correspondence as well as approximately 270 photographs of Harry Byers and his family. Also included are photographs from Byers' time living in Russia, and a diary recounting the two years he was there.

Materials relating to the life and career of Jerzy Pindera, with a specific focus on his time in World War II and as a prisoner of war in Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the Holocaust. Includes correspondence, articles, war records and short stories, as well as tapes of interviews conducted with Pindera.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by John Gartshore Martin and other members of his family, primarily his mother Jessie Martin and father John Alexander. Records relate to the lives and activities of John Gartshore Martin and other family members, including the impact of World War II. Includes photographs, correspondence, clippings, war memorabilia, ephemera, certificates, a scrapbook, military decorations, and other material.

Material documenting John Walter’s term as President of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.) Party’s Kitchener branch during 1930 to 1937. Included is correspondence concerning William Daum Euler, leaflets regarding an election campaign and anti-war messages, as well as various reference materials.

One scrapbook maintained by Eunice Gearard with clippings about people affiliated with the Kitchener Collegiate Institute (KCI) as well as about people from Kitchener-Waterloo who participated in the Second World War.

Collection consists of materials collected by Kenneth Rowntree during his time in Germany as part of the Canadian Army Dental Corps at the end of the Second World War. The collection includes materials primarily created in Oldenburg including a scrapbook relating to the Hitlerjugend, propaganda photographs, a playbill, and a brochure for the Beaver Club.

Fonds consists of material relating to the history and operations of the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, from its beginnings in 1878 to 1988. Also consists of historical materials on the history of Waterloo County and the Region of Waterloo including newspaper articles, slides, photographs, and negatives. Includes legal documents, clippings, ephemera, publications, artifacts, office files, photographic materials, and films.

Manuscripts collected by Dona Massel by members of the Kitchener-Waterloo community. Massel taught creative writing courses and was involved in interviewing people about their experiences in the Second World War.

Photograph album compiled by Mabel E. Neiley during her time working as a nurse in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Album reflects the life of a Canadian woman who emigrated to the United States in the early 20th Century and worked in the medical profession during the First World War and the 1918 Influenza pandemic.

Album includes photographs and postcards featuring photographs of the experiences of Mabel E. Neiley during her time as a U.S. Army nurse. Photographs capture nurses in uniform at the hospitals and barracks, nurses taking care of patients, nurses socializing with each other and with soldiers, and nursing posing in different areas of the hospital facilities. Album also contains photographs of soldiers by themselves and official visits (including one of possibly Edith and Woodrow Wilson).

According to annotations in some photographs, images were taken at Walter Reed hospital (Washinton DC, U.S.A), Camp Gordon (Georgia, U.S.A), and Columbus Barracks (Ohio, U.S.A).

Collection consists of a scrapbook album created by Mabel Welma Fox during her time at the University of Michigan (1921-1923). The scrapbook is covered with correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, ephemera, physical objects, and annotations that guide the reader through Fox’s university life.

Photographs are of Fox’s house guests, parties, field trips, prom, graduation, and members of the Betsy Barbour women’s residence hall. Newspaper clippings and full editions include Michigan Daily, College News, The Detroit News Mail edition, and Detroit Free Press, as well as others unidentified. Ephemera includes posters, invitations, tickets, and programs for events; place, calling, membership, and business cards; envelopes with receipts (including for tuition, lodging and rent, transportation, raffle tickets, and memberships); report and grade cards; poetry clippings and pages stripped from books; notebooks with course notes; cards and napkins; materials related to 1923 Commencement; and booklets for the University of Michigan Women’s League. Physical objects include decorations made with crepe paper for different events, a pencil tied to a notebook, and a mini frying pan from a dinner event, and rose leaves and petals.

The scrapbook is housed in a production scrapbook published by the College Memory Book Company from Chicago (Illinois, USA) with copyright from 1918, W.M.W. Clay, and with the title “National Memory and Fellowship Book.”

The first 25 pages of scrapbook include pre-printed sections used by Fox and/or her colleagues. Preprinted sections include annotations, drawings, photographs and ephemera (by students from Michigan, the United States, Japan, and China).

Fonds consists of material documenting the lives, interests and activities of Jenny Pincock, as well as her sister and brother-in-law Minnie and Fred Maines. The main focus of the fonds is the activities surrounding their interest in spiritualism. Includes correspondence; seance transcripts and notes; notes for and drafts of poems and other literary compositions by Jenny Pincock; clippings, ephemera, etc.

Consists of Marion Conroy's copies of material given to delegates at the National Conference of Regional Chairmen, Consumer Branch, Wartime Prices and Trade Board held in 1944, and includes the agenda and outline of issues for the Conference, as well as a separate report submitted by Kate Aitken, Supervisor of the Conservation Programme, on the establishment and progress across Canada of "Remake Centres." These centres were for teaching women to conserve new yard goods by making over existing garments.

The fonds also contains a scrapbook kept by Marion Conroy of clippings and ephemera dating from 1941-1944. As well as documenting Marion Conroy's activities, the scrapbook contains information on the organization and personalities involved in the Board and the Consumer Branch, such Donald Gordon and Byrne Hope Sanders. Also present are news accounts of the many rules and regulations applied to all aspects of the production and consumption of consumer goods, from fashion, food and drink, and housing, to the delivery and return of purchased goods.

Materials relating to the personal and professional life of the Motz family spanning over one hundred and fifty years and four generations. Also included is materials relating to their family work in the newspaper industry in Kitchener. Includes personal records of John Motz, his son William John, and his grandchildren John George and John Edward as well as their respective wives. Also includes materials related to Rittinger and Motz, and the various newspaper that were owned and operated by the company. Materials include photographs, biographical records, correspondence, clippings, legal documents, stationary and a scrapbook.

Fonds consists of two typescript leaves with directions for the tanning process used by the Lang Tanning Company for their contract with the RCAF.

Two Nazi propaganda albums with tipped in maps, portraits and images. Also included in each album are 100 stereoscope photographs and a stereoscope viewer showing Nazi activities during the Second World War.

Collection consists of materials created and accumulated by Paul S. Burtness and Warren U. Ober relating to their research on the events surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. Includes correspondence with prominent members of the U.S. Forces during World War II, as well as published articles that came out of the research.

Broadside of a poem delivered by Lizzie Doten on September 23, 1866 at Library Hall, Chelsea, titled "Reconstruction." The poem addresses then President Andrew Johnson and criticizes his approach to the South at the end of the American Civil War. She believed that Johnson was too lenient on the South and allowed too much wealth and influence to remain with Southern Confederate politicians. She also criticizes Johnson for being unconcerned with Black suffrage or the rights of Black soldiers who fought for the Union. She ends her poem with the rallying cry "...let the ballot finish what the bayonet has begun."

Accrual consists of materials created and accumulated by members of the Rieder and Anthes families. Includes correspondence, bonds, one photograph, ribbons, lace, a handkerchief and a war work guide.

Materials related to the Second World War from the perspective of a German soldier. Includes a Nazi propaganda card album that narrates and praises the creation, evolution, and rise of the Third Reich; and an autobiographical narration by Robert Julius Kelp (paratrooper in the Luftwaffe) during the last two years of the Second World War and the following years as a prisoner of war in France.

One holograph letter, written from the trenches in France during the First World War. Ross Hamilton is sending Miss Henstridge a book he has found in a ruined house, and is asking for news of his old school, Kitchener Collegiate Institute.

Fonds consists of material relating to descendants of Johann Christoph and Anna Elizabeth Schneider, their families, friends and activities. It also contains genealogical information about the Schneider and Ahrens family origins in Germany and relatives there. Includes clippings, correspondence, ephemera, films, manuscripts, photographs, slides, etc.

Series consists of material relating to the life and career of Norman C. Schneider, his personal and business interests and activities, as well as material relating to his wife Ethel (Lapsley) Schneider. Includes photographs and some documents relating to the 118th batallion, speeches, and presentations, awards and certificates, correspondence, ephemera, photographs, and other material.

Reports, studies, manuals, radio broadcast transcripts, and typed notes related to Second World War propaganda research, many of which were written by the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Fonds consists of one holograph letter dated March 9, 1944 from Sackville-West to Mrs. Leslie Hotson discussing the effects of war on South-West England.

One scrapbook kept by Ruth Beardsley, a member of the United States Naval Reserve, known as WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). The album includes 86 photographs showing Ruth and classmates at training at Hunter College in New York a well as Oklahoma A&M College; Ruth with family and friends; the USS Woodworth; and a trip to Washington. Also included in the scrapbook are three wartime ration books from members of the Peterson family, two postcards to Edwin Peterson, a Petty Officer training manual for John Peterson from 1950, a clipping regarding Ruth visiting the factory where her father worked, an invitation to a party on the USS Kearsarge (CV-33) issued only to women, an Easter card, a certificate for Beardsley from the Maryland College of Engineering in Engineering Drawing, and a transcript of a broadcast given on CBS by Eric Sevareid on the day of the truce in the Korean War. The scrapbook itself features a drawing of WAVES on the cover.

Fonds consists of material relating to the wartime activities and experiences of William E. Short, a soldier with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France during WWI. It contains two manuscript diaries kept by William Edward Short from 1915 to 1919, as well as two transcripts (typescript, computer output).

A collection of food circulars distributed during the First World War in both Canada and the United States. The circulars provide information on food nutrition, rationing and recipes.
