              An audio recording of an interview conducted by Jermal Jones with Samantha Lange, an undergraduate student studying physics in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo. The interview explores Samantha Lange’s family background, immigration from Trinidad to Canada, education, experiences as a student at the University of Waterloo including her participation in the Black Studies program and in several student organizations such as the University of Waterloo Science Society and FemPhys, and her thoughts about where the university will be at 100 years old in 2057. The interview was conducted virtually from Waterloo, Ontario. File also contains a transcript of the interview.

The interview explores Dr. Murchison Callender’s family background, immigration from Trinidad and Tobago to Canada, education, research, career path, legacy as perhaps the first Black faculty member in optometry in Canada, experiences working as a faculty member at the University of Waterloo, and his thoughts about where the university will be at 100 years old in 2057. Hynes, from his work as a student at the University of London in the late 1930s through his time as a professor of biology at the University of Waterloo until his retirement in the 1980s. Includes material relating to his work on stoneflies in the British Isles, his work for the British government in Trinidad and East Africa, his time at the University of Liverpool including work on river pollution, and his career at the University of Waterloo, including his sabbaticals in Australia.

              Fonds includes notebooks containing field notes, ms. and ts. notes, publications authored by Hynes and by others, reports, correspondence, maps, and photographs.
