Scope and content
File consists of copies of the memorial service for Harriet Lane Rouillard (1904-1987) which took place on January 24, 1987 in Toronto. Also among the items in this file are two of the tributes which were made by two of the "rememberers" at Harriet Rouillard's memorial service. These were Clare Clark and Richard Davidson. In her tribute Clare Clark remembers the achievements of and the experiences she shared with Harriet Rouillard who was a colleague of hers. Clare Clark and Harriet Rouillard were co-workers in the Canadian Association for Adult Education and in the Indian-Eskimo Association. Harriet Rouillard also worked with the Canadian Institute of International Affairs.
This file also contains the obituary for Harriet Rouillard as well as a note which appears to have been written by her husband, Clarence Rouillard, informing family and friends of the sudden death of Harriet Rouillard on January 16, 1987.
Also contained in this file is a copy of a letter sent by Eleanor Roosevelt to Harriet Rouilllard dated October 24, 1949 thanking her for sending on a copy of Food for Thought and informing her that she is so immpressed by it that she plans to send it on to the Department of State so that they too may see it. Harriet Rouillard was the editor of Food for Thought at the time this letter was written.
The final item contained in this file is a copy of an article entitled To Be or to Become? Cultural Factors in Social Adjustment of Indians. This piece takes the form of excerpts from an address made by Dr. Ben Reifel, Area Director, Aberdeen Area to the Northern Montana Work Conference on Indian Education, which was published in Indian Education on April 15, 1957.
