Photo caption from published version of 85-05-02_001: "It's symbolic - The "Maple Lab" in the computer science department, which has been in use all winter, was officially opened in May. It's equipped with 38 colour graphics terminals, fruits of the agreement between UW and the Digital Equipment Corp., says Lyn Burkowski of the dean's office in math. The lab gives first-year students (and soon those in second-year algebra and calculus too) hands-on experience with Maple, a symbolic computation computer language developed by researchers in the CS department."
