One vellum bound manuscript cookbook of unknown origin. Cookbook features approximately 50 recipes in at least fifteen different hands. Most recipes are for desserts, although a few are for savoury dishes and household products. Some recipes are signed. Signatures include: M. Moore, Mary Dawson, and S. Lowels. Also included in the file is an index of recipes and the original seller's note.

The subjects are indexed at the beginning of the notebook and include topics such as demonic possession, Buddha, ectoplasm, necromancy, superstition and more. Contains 1 ledger (794 pages), and one name index (24 pages) for the William Kriesel stoves and tinware store (hardware store) from 1891-1895. Entries are categorized by name and date, and include such information as what items were purchased, what day they were purchased on, and what type of payment was used (cash, exchange, or none at all). Some accounts include notes that state that they are transferred onto different pages or into Ledger E, and sometimes there is more than one account per page.

Includes a separate index of names with the corresponding page number beside the customer's name.

File consists of one unbound account book labelled "Hide Book" containing records from 1856 to 1857 of "hides received from Canada to be charged to North Evans Tannery." Includes notes payable, relating to business mostly conducted in Canada by L. Breithaupt, to be paid by account of J.F. Schoellkopf, Buffalo, N.Y. Also contains two letters in German dated November 30 and December 2, 1861 from M. Strauss, Buffalo, N.Y.

File consists of one day book belonging to Louis Breithaupt. The pages are numbered by hand to p. 60 and are variously headed "Buffalo" and "Berlin". It is uncertain whether handwriting is contemporary or added later by Louis Jacob Breithaupt,.

p. 1-53 contain entries from June 1852 to Oct. 1861 relating to his business in Buffalo, N.Y. [and probably Berlin as well as of 1857].
p. 54-55 written on by Louis J. Breithaupt, Jan. 7, 1870. "Facts" and penmanship practice.
p. 56 accounts resume at Nov. [1861?] Page is headed "Breithaupt & Strauss". Accounts appear to relate to business in Berlin. P. [68] contains an entry on Oct. 20 [1862?] relating to balance "Schoellkopf " according to statement. Page is headed "Buffalo, September 1861" in an unidentified handwriting.
p. [70] ends with entry for Jan. 1863. Page [71] overleaf starts at Nov. 18, 1865 and is weekly accounts, including wages paid to named individuals in "Beam House", "Currier Shop", "Yard." P. [78] headed "Berlin Dec. 23rd 1865" contains annotation: "This was written by P. Cress: all on this page but this."
Accounts continue to p. [185] ending with June 22, 1867.
p. [186] begins day book described on end leaf as "Team book kept by Louis J. Breithaupt Berlin, Ont., 1869-1870. The first entry is dated Aug. 13, 1869. Entries concern loads carried by various teams, what was carried and where carried to, threshing, plowing, etc.. LJB would be 15 years old at this time. Ends at p. [236], entry for Sept. 15, 1870.

P. [238] contains inscription: "L.J. Breithaupt, Berlin, Ont., student of Berlin Central School, Berlin Ontario, Sept. 15, 1870. Page also contains a list of "Old bricks for inside wall of house."

Jane Urquhart fonds.

The fonds consists of a single diary kept by Jane Urquhart from 1974 to 1981, before she began her writing career, and documents primarily several trips to Europe taken with Tony Urquhart. This diary served as a sketchbook, journal and trip diary, and contains drawings and sketches, photographs, ephemera, plant material, etc. Its 258 pages contain 71 sketches, drawings and watercolours including 27 by Tony Urquhart, 32 by Jane Urquhart, 2 by Michael Ondaatje and 10 by other artists.

The book includes approximately seventy five pages of drawings, approximately forty one of which are annotated of have notes. File consists of one commercially produced 11 x 17 cm 200 page ruled lined notebook used by Tony Urquhart as an idea book. The covers are black board and the front cover has a small circle painting. The first two leaves of the book have been taped together to create an envelope which contains various items of ephemera from 1958 to the 2000's.

The idea book includes approximately eighty pages of drawings, approximately forty seven of which are annotated or includes notes. Also includes approximately sixty two pages of handwritten notes and fifty two pages of glued in ephemera. Note that many pages have a combination of media.

File consists of one hand made 17 x 11 cm 40 page accordion style idea book used by Tony Urquhart. This idea book was kept during a 2008 trip to France on the fiftieth anniversary of Urquhart's first visit to France. The book is bound in blue cloth and the front and back covers both have small circle paintings. The back painting reads "Part 2 Back."

The idea book includes approximately 29 pages of drawings, approximately 20 of which have annotations of notes. Also includes 8 pages of handwritten notes and 5 of glued in ephemera. Note that many pages have a combination of media.

File consists of one handmade 13 x 10 cm 180 page idea book created and used by Tony Urquhart. The book is bound in orange paper and the cover has a small circle drawing with the initials T.U. and the dates 2008-2009.

The idea book includes approximately 107 pages with sketches, of which approximately 39 also have annotations or notes. The rest of the book is made up of approximately 20 pages of handwritten notes, as well as 21 pages of glued in ephemera. The ephemera includes early photographs from Urquhart's life include one of a drawing trip in 1953 and an early photo of his wife Jane Urquhart. Note that many pages have a combination of media.

Travel diary written by Mary Ham to record her experience travelling and working as a camp counselor in western Canada during the summer of 1949. Diary entries were written chronologically by date and describe Mary's experiences over the course of one day. The diary is incomplete as the entries end on August 11, 1949 while Mary is still in Alberta, Canada subsequently leaving no record of her travels to Vancouver, British Columbia and her passage home.

Fonds consists of one diary maintained by Emma Clough of Hudson, New York from the period January 10-March 19, 1884. Emma travels to Washington after visiting friends in New York city and her diary details her tourist activities in both cities. In Washington she meets President Arthur as well as Blanche K. Bruce the first Black Senator, Frederick Douglass, Belva Lockwood, Helen Gougar, Susan B. Anthony and others. Along with shopping, visiting acquaintances and attending social functions, in early March of 1884 Emma begins to attend suffrage meetings which are detailed in the diary.

Includes information on lunar eclipses that occurred February 1841; November 1, 1844; March 8, 1849 and solar eclipses on: March 1858, May 1854 and July 18, 1860. Also includes other mathematical problems related to astronomy.

Ca. [73] p. ms. diary contained in a coverless notebook kept by J. H. Shoults. This diary covers the period Jan. 1, 1884 - Dec. 15, 1884. This diary contains daily entries recording Shoults' personal, social, and professional activities when he was living in Orono. Accounts of weather conditions are also contained in these diaries. The entries in this diary relate to Shoults' activities as a minister, and include the names of the places where he preached and of the Bible readings which formed the basis for his services. Reference is also made to the many church meetings he participated in, to funerals he attended, and to other church activities in which he was involved. Social and parish visits are also described and these diaries include the names of many friends and acquaintances. The gardening activities which Shoults was involved in during the year are also described. Contains one black leather bound notebook used by Frederick Arthur Edmonds as a diary. The notebook is ruled, contains some numbered pages, and opens lengthwise. Entries are dated and sporadic, are written in pencil, and include a chart of the names of soldiers from the 16th Platoon, with their identification number, rank, age, marital status, date of arrival in France, religion, next of kin, trade, and courses. Includes a loose leaf of paper in the front pocket of the notebook, and several blank pages. The diary entries are titled "My diary since leaving the 'Ypres Salient'", and detail the movement of troops, destinations, times leaving and arriving places, encampments, training progress, weather, distances from place to place in kilometres, locations of battles, places billeted, conditions in the trenches, descriptions of battles, objectives, conditions, attacks, general notes about casualties, tanks, mines, and descriptions of Edmonds' stay in the Paris Plaz hospital and Le Havre hospital. The diary goes up until just before Vimy Ridge, when Edmonds is invalided home.

This diary includes entries recording personal, social, and professional activities as well as accounts of weather conditions. Initially the entries are written daily, but the latter entries are sporadic. A synopsis of 1870 written by Shoults is also contained in this diary.The diary entries indicate that Shoults has given up teaching at this point and is engaged in working for the Christian Church full-time. Reference is made to the sermons which he prepared and delivered, to church services and meetings he attended, to a Christian conference, and to baptisms and funerals. Some lists of names of converts to the church are included in this diary along with the the name of the place where these individuals first embraced this new religion, the date of their baptism, and the date when they were first united with the church. This diary was written from Shoults' home in Whitevale and contains daily entries recording personal, social and professional activities as well as accounts of weather conditions. Although it is clear from this diary that Shoults is still employed as a school teacher and involved in farming activities, the majority of the diary entries make reference to church services or meetings attended by him. It is evident that he is becoming increasingly involved in church activities. He describes church services and meetings he attends (most of which take place at the Christian Church, but some of which take place at the Baptist Church). He also refers to his attempt to establish a Union Sabbath School, as well as his role as teacher of a Bible class, and the small part he has begun to play in preaching during Christian Church services and meetings. Diary entries do, however, continue to make reference to other matters such as social and family visits (including the names of many friends and acquaintances), and to shopping and errands run by Shoults. Once again much reference is made to the price of farm products, food, etc.
