General note
The University of Waterloo library opened a state-of-the art Accessibility Centre on November 24, 1992 located in Dana Porter Library. The centre evolved out of a collaboration between the Library and the Office for Persons with Disabilities. Equipment installed in the centre included a Kurzweil Reader (a machine that reads text aloud and downloads it to a computer disk), a microcomputer with voice output capabilities, a large-print computer, a Braille Printer, a closed-circuit TV magnifier and four-track recorders. Principal funding for the centre came from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. The centre's librarian was Jane Forgay, Librarian, Services for Persons with Disabilities. – Information via article “Centre makes library accessible” published in the December 2, 1992 (v.33, n.14) edition of the Gazette.
