Workers’ Challenge was a German black propaganda radio station and claimed to be run by British citizens broadcasting from inside Britain. Programmes featured Marxist themes and attempted to highlight and exploit differences in class, ethnicity, religion and politics between the British working class and the British elite. In addition, the programmes allowed swearing, which was shocking to audiences at the time.
To camouflage the location of the station and its true objectives, programmes used specific language register and even encouraged listeners to support Russia in its struggle with the Third Reich.
