General note
Vaishnavism is one of the major Hindu denominations. It is also called Vishnuism since it considers Vishnu as the sole supreme being leading all other Hindu deities. Its followers are called Vaishnavites or Vaishnavas.
A tilaka is a mark worn on the forehead for daily for decorative purposes, as a symbol for sectarian affiliation, for rites of passage or for special spiritual and religious occasions, depending on regional customs. The Urdhva Pundra is a specific tilaka that shows an affiliation with Vishnu.
