Photo caption from published 1967 version of image: "FIRST IN CANADA - The first plant in Canada to make beet sugar was the Dominion Sugar Co. on Lancaster Street near the Bridgeport boundary. The plant was opened in 1902 and stopped production in 1923. The plant gave the community a brief status as the country's sugar beet refining capital."
