    Biographical history

    Dr. S. Dana Hubbard was born in Montgomery Alabama to Samuel and Mary C. Hubbard. He attended the University of Alabama, where he graduated in 1887. After this, he attended medical school at Bellevue Hospital Medical College, graduating in 1891. He worked as a dermatologist at both Bellevue Hospital and Riverside Hospital before going into private practice. Between 1891-1898 he was a surgeon in the New York National Guard and the United States infantry volunteers in the Spanish-American War. Dr. Hubbard served as a medical inspector for the New york Health Department, and was a member of the New York Board of Health for over forty years. He was also an instructor and diagnostician for the New York hospital department. In 1922 Dr. Hubbard published a series of booklets on sexual hygiene. He was particularly interested in quackery and investigating violations of medical practice acts. Dr. Hubbard died in New York in 1937.

The introduction indicates that the book is compiled of facts from federal, state and municipal public health officials and is intended to help prevent venereal diseases. Some of the topics include education on STIs, women's health and sexual education, hygiene, and what girls need to know when entering adulthood.

    The publication includes a diagram of the uterus, ovaries and vagina indicating where inflammation can happen due to STI, how to act during menstruation, beauty and popularity, health tips, how to dress, and how to avoid 'white slavery'.
