General note
The Portable Living Unites for Seniors (PLUS) project was proposed by the Ministry of Housing for municipalities and was designed to facilitate the building of temporary, movable, detached dwelling units, known as granny flats, for occupancy by an elderly parent of the host household, situated on the lot of the host household. The Ministry of Housing launched a subsequent Demonstration Project in 1985 to make available a total of twelve granny flat units for distribution equally between three demonstration areas including the City of Waterloo, Region of Ottawa-Carleton, and the Region of Sudbury.
