Alice Very Brown

File consists of incoming correspondence from Alice Very Brown and carbon copies of outgoing responses to Brown from Sanborn regarding his draft of a psychological monograph regarding "Little Anna". Correspondence from Sanborn makes reference to Carl Jung and his work "The Psychology of the Child Archetype".

Arts and crafts of little Anna

Consists of typed and carbon copied drafts of Sanborn's unpublished manuscript titled The Arts and Crafts of Little Anna OR How Little Anna Met a Friend Who Kept His Windows Open to Wonder-Seekers.

File 1 or 2 contains drafts of the entire manuscript.

File 2 of 2 contains drafts of the Prefatory Note and Chapter III: The School of Unlearning. Also in the file is a carbon copy of a letter from Sanborn to Olive [Burchfiel]. Dated Friday, February 24, 1961, Sanborn's letter outlines the state of the manuscript, how it came to be, and makes note of Willem Pinard, a professor of psychology at the University of Boston, having offered to write an Introduction for the book.

Bob Sanborn

File consists of incoming correspondence from Sanborn's son Robert ["Bob"] between June and August of 1962. Also in the file is a carbon copy response from Sanborn to his son dated September 1962 and a copy of a letter from Sanborn to his [daughter?] dated "Monday, -Oct. 4". Letters make reference to George Householder, George and Mary Heusenstamm, and Hilda.

Bunty

Consists of a carbon copy of a typed manuscript by Sanborn titled Bunty. Editing revisions appear through out. Page 1 of the 4 page draft is missing.

Cards and clippings

File consists of greeting cards, speaking notes, publisher information about Robert Alden Sanborn, a typescript of Our Baptism by John Haynes Holmes dated November 3, 1924, and the August 1954 edition of Save the Children Federation Quarterly (Vol. XVII, No. 4) featuring photos of an Austrian child sponsored by Sanborn.

Carol and Auden

Consists of typescript drafts of two letters heavily annotated and revised by Sanborn. A loose note also appears in the file. The first letter is addressed to Mrs. Bancker regarding her daughter Carol's appearance as a child model in photo shoot by Helen Lee that appeared on page 167 of the October 26, 1953 edition of LIFE magazine. Some of the drafts make reference to Gulliver's Travels. The second letter is addressed to [W. H.] Auden regarding children in the writing of Lewis Carroll following a review written by Auden titled The Man Who wrote Alice that appeared in [the February 28, 1954 edition] of the New York Times. Revision annotations appear throughout.

File consists of newspaper clippings regarding the Boston Red Sox, children's books and activities, and the poet Robert Frost.

Focused primarily on the social development of two young girls referred to as "Little Anna" and "Bunty" the narrative drafts include extensive revision annotations. Also in the series are draft letters regarding a child model named Carol and children in the writing of Lewis Carroll, as well as poems written by Sandborn and his mother Mary Farley Sanborn.

Fonds consists of unpublished typescripts and manuscripts by Robert Alden Sanborn. Influenced by the work of Carl Jung, the unpublished works are predominantly related to Sanborn's interest in the social development of children and several of the drafts consist of narratives about young girls referred to as "Little Anna" and "Bunty". Also included is collected ephemera and correspondence between Sanborn and his family, colleagues and publishing contacts, including his editor Olive Burchfiel (1888-1960), as well as writing by Sanborn's mother, Mary Farley Sanborn, including a published version of "The Valor Ranch" (1914); a typescript version of the poem "My Eighth of May"; and a clipping of the poem "The Barrel-Stave."
