General note
Bill C-50 Budget Implementation Act was a government bill introduced in the House of Commons on March 14, 2008. Bill C-50 allowed the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration to fast-track certain immigration applications to reduce the backlog of applications. Andrew Telegdi voted against Bill C-50 during the Third Reading on June 9, 2008. Telegdi believed these new provisions would limit the number of immigration applications the Canadian government accepted, deny admission to applications already approved by immigration officers, and block the entry of potential immigrants by category or otherwise. Bill C-50 received Royal Assent on June 18, 2008.
