The members of the Bowman family represented in the correspondence include children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Rev. Joseph O. Bowman (1766-1849) and Christian Bowman (1766-1824). Although the families share a common distant ancestor the commonality of families in the set of correspondence represented here comes from Elizabeth Bowman (b. 1844) and Nancy Bowman (1839-1925), both children of Samuel B. Bowman, marrying brothers Allan (1841-1928) and Simon (b. 1844) Bowman, children of Samuel W. Bowman. A more complete family tree is included in file 1 of the fonds.

Materials related to the Breithaupt family, specifically the family branch Breithaupt Anthes, started by John Christian Breithaupt and Carrie Breithaupt. The Breithaupt Hewetson Clark collection includes family papers the three families named; the Breithaupt family, the Hewetson family, and the Clark family. Made up of over several hundred cubic feet of archives, about 12,000 photographs, several thousand printed items and a large group of "subject and topical files" as well as plans, maps and drawings.

The largest set of family records are those related to the Breithaupt family of what is today Kitchener with the earliest documents being from the period of Liborious Breithaupt's emigration in 1843. A small group of family papers collected by Spencer Clark contains material on the Clark and Alexander families. Other families including the Devitt family of Waterloo and the Davis family of Brampton are also represented in the collection.

Also in the collection are records related to the Guild of All Arts (now the Guild Inn) in Scarborough, Ontario from its inception in 1932 to the 1980s. Founded by Rosa Breithaupt Hewetson Clark and Spencer Clark, the Guild began as a co-operative crafts community, and evolved primarily as a hotel and conference centre. In addition to Guild records, the Breithaupt Hewetson Clark collection holds smaller collections acquired by the Breithaupt family and by Spencer Clark. The personal library of Spencer Clark, which includes many books, periodicals, government documents, and ephemeral items, was donated together with the archival collections, and is particularly strong in the fields of urban planning, architecture, and Canadian art.

The picnic attendees appear to include the owners and employees of the three Budds Department Store locations, as well as their families. File consists of one letter from Christian Enslin, bookseller and bookbinder, Waterloo, Ontario to Fredrick Heinitsch, M.D., Lancaster, Pennsylvania requesting the right to "Mother Drops", a medicine created by Dr. Heinitsch on which he held the patent.
The letter also includes information on bookbinding and printing practices in Upper Canada and makes reference to local figures such as Benjamin Eby, Bishop of the Mennonites.

The majority of the archives of the Concordia Club were destroyed either as a result of the ransacking of the club by the 118th Batallion in 1916, or as a result of the fire of November 17, 1971. As a result the earliest records of Concordia have largely been lost forever. A very small number of items can be traced back to the Concordia Male Choir (1873-1914). These take the form of two items of correspondence, programs for the "Sängerfests", clippings, and photographs. A small number of archival records also can be found which belonged to the "Deutscher Club, Kitchener" (1925-1930), and include a set of house rules, letters patent, and photographs. Some records from the 1930s have also been preserved to this day, and include artifacts, clippings, legal documents, a membership list, photographs, and programs of events. However, the majority of the materials date from the 1950s onwards. Included, though unrelated, are two ledgers from a Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario general store for the years 1893 and 1907. Accounts listed include purchases by John King, father of William Lyon Mackenzie King, that help document the lifestyle of the King family while living at Woodside, now a National Historic Site.

This fonds consists of three groups of photocopies accumulated by David R. McKnight for research.

The second is photocopies from an unknown source of documents relating to the Waterloo area. These include photocopies of official typescript transcriptions of land grants relating to land along the Grand River dated 1798, of a grant made to King's College in 1828, of maps from unidentified published works but originally from the National Archives of Canada, and photocopies of a number of 19th-century ms. agreements and indentures. Some of the items were originally stamped "Property of Registry Office, County of Waterloo".

The third group of photocopies is a copy of a volume from the Archives of Ontario entitled "Crown lands" dated 1857, containing descriptions of same in Waterloo, Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich and North Dumfries townships.

Fonds consists of 28 items of correspondence predominantly written during 1893 to David Shannon Bowlby from his family in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario while Bowlby was a student at the University of Toronto. Most of the letters are casual in nature providing updates about happenings in Berlin, including church sermons and social engagements.

The majority of the letters are authored by Bowlby's mother Martha Esther, with additional letters from friends, including Albert Liborius Breithaupt, and family, including father David Sovereign. Also in the file is one letter from Bowlby on personalized letterhead.

Like many other Kitchener natives, E.B. Dunke seems to have purchased land in Saskatchewan, documented by one file of correspondence.

Edwin Dunke was probably the proprietor, or part owner, of Dunke and Co., a grocery store at 35 King. St. E. between Queen and Benton Streets. The "day books" of this store, complete with customers' names, purchases and store inventories reveal the daily lives, diets and purchasing patterns of local families and individuals from 1896 to 1930.

Fonds consists primarily of records relating to the operation and activities of the Grand River Conservation Commission from 1938 to 1966, mostly records maintained by successive secretary-treasurers, but including some chairman's files (William Philip), and operations files. Includes a wide range of documentation, including correspondence, financial records, minutes, personnel records, reports, maps and plans and environmental monitoring records. Documentation includes construction of the Shand and Conestogo Dams, property acquisition and management, relations and interactions with municipalities and government departments at the provincial and federal levels, flood management and monitoring, implementation and management of health care, unemployment insurance, provincial and federal taxes, rental and leasing of cottage lots and other properties, reforestation and nursery operations, management of motor vehicles and other equipment.

Records relating to the history, administration, and operations of Greb Industries Limited and its predecessors, the Greb Shoe Company Limited and the Berlin Shoe Manufacturing Company Limited, as well as its subsidiary companies. Includes letters patent and by-laws, minutes, financial statements, annual reports, correspondence and memorandum, legal documents, press clippings, newsletters, reports, presentations, advertisements, photographs, ephemera, and audio and video recordings.

The fonds consists of land transactions, mortgages, declarations, and power of attorney documents. Some seem to have been retained as they pertain to personal or family business of members of the firm, such as documents relating to the estate of Christian Kumpf, whose daughter married A.B. McBride.

Some documents relate to well known names in the history of the area, such as David Kuntz of Kuntz Breweries and John Hoffman, for whom a survey of Waterloo was done in 1855, Thomas Hilliard, Charles Noecker, Ford S. Kumpf, etc.

Evidence of printing activity is present in legal forms printed by local booksellers and stationers for the firm. The documents contain evidence of trades and occupations of the time, including marble cutter, tailor, hotel keeper, farmer, woolen mill employee, button turner, shoe merchant, cabinet maker, tobbaconist, cigar box manufaturer, brewer, pumpmaker, telephone agent, etc. Also interesting to note is the shift to the use of a typewriter and the appearance of a female employee described as a "stenographer." Interesting also is the relative level of literacy evident in the signatures of individuals, particularly those of husbands and wives, many of whom are represented only by their "mark."

Material relating to the activities of the Waterloo law firm Haney, Haney, Kendall & Melville under various former names (including MacGachen & Colquhoun, and Colquhoun & McBride), as well as material relating to the family history of some of the firm's members.

Includes mostly deeds of land, mortgages, declarations, and correspondence; a will, a marriage contract, a birth registration, an insurance policy, a grant of burial lot, and other documents are also present. Accrual also contains two auction sale posters. Most of the documents were created in the local area, and some were created in England and Scotland.

Several files contain deeds and mortgages for Lot 9 and part of Lot 10 in the village of St. Jacobs, showing transfer in ownership from Levi Cress to Christian Henrich in 1884, through several other parties, to John L. Horst and his wife Selina Horst in 1953. Several files also contain material relating to a Fred Kempf and his property in Elmira. Some of the documents seem to have been retained for their relation to personal or family business of members of the firm.

Hespeler Furniture Co. day book and journal, 1901-1904; cash book 1903-1906; 5 ledgers from 1907 to 1943, accounts payable 1936 to 1964, and eight financial statements between 1916-1940.

Fonds consists of materials created and accumulated by extended members, and friends, of the Hobson family. Materials in this fonds were originally owned by members of the Hobson, Shoemaker and Anthes families. Includes photographs, ephemera, financial documents, historic newspaper and maps.

Fonds consists of materials created and accumulated by generations of the Illig family. Includes naval photographs and ephemera relating to the Second World War, and a photograph of employees in front of the Bauer building.

Material relating to members of the Isaac Lucius Bowman family, their interests and activities. Some of the most significant local material in the fonds originates with the Bowman family. Isaac Lucius Bowman was born at Freeport in 1830, and was founder and principal of the Freeport Academy from 1867-1872. This very early educational institution is here documented with Proceedings of the Academy, ephemera, and two photographs of the members of the Academy. I. L. Bowman then trained to be a Provincial Land Surveyor, and many of the very early plans and maps in the fonds are from the Bowman Family belongings. Of his four sons, three also became surveyors and Engineers, while Hervey attended the Universities of Toronto and the Leipzig. His files relate mostly to his educational pursuits, but include some other family-related materials.

Fonds consists of material created and accumulated mainly by Ivan W. Keffer, and some by his wife Mary L. Keffer, that documents the lives and activities of the Keffers, especially during the time they lived in Germany. Records also relate to the career of Ivan W. Keffer at the F.W. Woolworth Co. Includes diaries, correspondence, photographs, souvenir postcards and other ephemera, personal documents, reports, clippings, and other material.

Fonds consists of seventeen documents relating to the Jardine family, dating from 1797 to 1927, including correspondence, character references, certificates of marriage, articles of partnership, and one will.

The Jim Guy collection consists of materials accumulated by Jim Guy relating to his family home at 110 John Boulevard in the Westmount region of Waterloo. Includes architectural plans and specifications as well as home movies and slides showing the home and surrounding area.

Materials created or accumulated by John English as part of different functions in his professional life. Includes materials related to committees, organizations, and associations with which he was involved; conferences and events he attended or organized; different research projects, with the preeminence of Arctic matters; speeches, lectures, and courses he thought or organized; and political activities and events as part of the Canadian Liberal Party.

Consists of one holograph letter from John Galt addressed to "Croker." The letter requests that Croker publish the enclosed items in his magazine if they are not too late reaching him.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by John Gartshore Martin and other members of his family, primarily his mother Jessie Martin and father John Alexander. Records relate to the lives and activities of John Gartshore Martin and other family members, including the impact of World War II. Includes photographs, correspondence, clippings, war memorabilia, ephemera, certificates, a scrapbook, military decorations, and other material.

Consists of typescripts of fifteen letters, fourteen from John Goldie to his son James written between 1846 and 1854, one undated from William to James.
