Two costume design renderings mounted on foamboard for Pounce de Lion, the University of Waterloo alumni mascot, created as part of the development of a revised mascot costume in 1991.
The first rendering, titled Pounce Mascot Design #2, depicts Pounce wearing a black t-shirt featuring University of Waterloo branding and black and white striped shorts. The illustration includes notes identifying Marian Marshall and Jocelyne Sobeski as the costume designers, records a rendering date of March 19, 1991, and outlines proposed revisions to the design, including enlarging the head, reducing the size of the feet, removing the t-shirt and eyelids, and modifying the facial features based on recommendations from Frank Esch.
The second rendering, dated May 9, 1991, depicts a revised version of the costume that incorporates many of the changes proposed in the earlier design. Pounce is shown wearing only black shorts and features a rounder face, no eyelids, and other refinements that more closely resemble the final costume ultimately produced. The illustration also includes detailed construction notes identifying materials and design elements such as plastic eyes and whiskers, attached paws and feet, and a soft foam tail, and records that the costume was designed by Marian Marshall and Jocelyne Sobeski, with the rendering based on the cartoon created by Frank Esch.
