Part of Andrew Telegdi fonds.
Material created or accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his tenure as a Member of Parliament documenting the opinions of some constituents and Telegdi’s political involvement in the denaturalization and deportation case against Helmut Oberlander, a suspected war criminal. Oberlander was a resident of Andrew Telegdi’s constituency. Records primarily include correspondence between Telegdi, constituents, associations, corporate entities, and fellow politicians such as Herb Gray, Elinor Caplan, and Denis Coderre, as well as articles written by Jerzy T. Pindera and other textual material.
The file also includes press clippings, correspondence, and news releases related to criticism Telegdi received following remarks he made on May 4, 2001 that compared Canada’s deportation procedures to those in Stalinist or Nazi totalitarian regimes. In addition, the file contains records documenting a public exchange between Telegdi and Keith Landy, then President of the Canadian Jewish Congress. Furthermore, the file contains material related to public exchanges between Telegdi and Warren Kinsella, a Canadian lawyer, and Liberal Party activist including correspondence, news releases, and a notice of liability possibly sent to Warren Kinsella and The Toronto Star by Telegdi.
