Series consists of manuscripts and galley proofs prepared for publications and other research reports and papers by Dendy.
This includes a photocopy of a preliminary report, which Dendy wrote for the National Historic Sites Service in Ottawa re the 1968 Archaelogical Excavations Conducted at Fort Beausejour National Historic Park, Aulac, New Brunswick. It also includes a ts. draft of a research paper presented by Dendy entitled "The Background of Modernism in Toronto". Finally, Series consists of several sections of the galley proofs prepared for the revised and expanded edition of Lost Toronto which was published in 1993, in addition to a list of the photographs used in the first edition of this work (1978).

The William Dendy Library consists of more than 3,500 books and 2,500 periodical issues. For the most part, the collection focuses on the history of architecture, but other topics, such as music and literature, are featured as well.

Fonds consists of materials documenting William Dendy's life and career as an architectural historian including university course notes, research material for published works, research material on the history of Canadian architecture and other research interests such as Forest Hill, Hamilton, the architects Frank Darling and William Somerville, and the Massey family. Some materials relate to Dendy's teaching activities, Toronto walking tours and consultancy projects.

Also present are articles, card files, clippings, correspondence, electronic records, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, manuscript and typescript notes, as well as photographs, negatives, and approximately 40,000 slides (including more than 17,000 images of Canadian architecture, urban space, and landscape). The slides were taken by Dendy and are each individually identified by him.

West Coast domestic architecture.

Contains untitled loose materials. This includes photocopies of journal articles from Western Homes & Living (issues date from 1950's) and photocopies from books and other publications many of which were received from the Provincial Archives in British Columbia. These materials relate to domestic architecture (both exterior and interior home designs) in West Coast Canada.

This file also includes photocopies of correspondence (dating from the 1950's) of the National Industrial Design Council re Perpetua Furniture Ltd. Also includes photocopies of sketches of furniture and other documentation.

Videocassettes.

This series includes two videocassettes (copy 1 and copy 2). Each videocassette show the same film footage.They both include programs re the architectural history of Toronto shown on CBLT MORNING. Dendy was a regular contributor in the fields of architecture and architechtural history for CBLT MORNING between 1985-1986.

The first program (ca. 10 mins. in duration) is entitled "Lost Horizons" and focuses on the history of the development of high rise buildings in Toronto especially commercial architecture. Dendy provides extensive commentary during this program.

The second item (about 5-10 minutes in duration) forms part of a program re Wytchwood Park which also includes commentary by Dendy re the architectural history of this neighbourhood.

U.S. and Canadian Cities : guides and brochures.

Includes maps of regions and cities within Canada and the U.S.A. Additionally includes tourist guides to historic buildings and sites both within Canada and the U.S.A., as well as guides to gallery and museum exhibitions. Also includes a publication entitled York Minster and its Problems and another publication which focuses on the architecture of New York city.

University : as student and teacher.

Includes degree certificates awarded to Dendy including a Degree of Bachelor of Arts (1976) and a Master of Arts (1979) from St. John's College in the University of Cambridge. Additionally, includes a photograph which shows Dendy receiving a degree or an award at unidenfitied ceremony or event.

Another photograph appears to depict students and staff in the school of architecture at Massey College, University of Toronto (1979-1980). Dendy was one of the staff members in this year and he is among the individuals in this photograph. All members in this photograph are identified in an accompanying list.

Finally, this file contains a photograph depicting a group of people who Dendy may have worked or studied with. The occasion on which this photograph was taken and the individuals in this photograph are, however, not identified.

United States : guides and brochures.

Materials contained in this file were collected by Dendy when he lived in the U.S.A or was visiting the U.S.A. They include maps, and many tourist guides in the form of pamphlets, folded flyers, and brochures. Many of these take the form of guides to museum and gallery exhibitions, while others take the form of walking tour guides or guides to historic buildings or regions within the U.S.A.

In particular guides to different areas of Chicago issued by the Commission on Chicago Historical and Architectural Landmarks are contained in this file. Other items include postcards, col. photographs, as well as clippings and issues of journals which relate primarily to the theme of architecture and/or art in certain areas of the U.S.A.

Toronto Western Hospital : photographs.

Includes four b&w photographs (one mounted on cardboard, one in a frame), one of which depicts the Toronto Western Hospital at the end of the 19th century, and three of which depict this hospital at the beginning of 20th century. The two remaining b&w photographs depicting the Toronto Western Hospital were taken more recently, probably in the 1970's or 1980's

Includes ms. notes, b&w photographs (originals and photocopies), photocopies from books and other publications, and clippings. These materials are divided into separate file folders according to the building, street, or area of Toronto to which they relate. While some of these materials constitute Dendy's research for walking tours of Toronto, other materials (especially photographs and manuscripts) were used or prepared for the revised edition of Lost Toronto which was published in 1993.

Includes many ms. and ts. (original and computer output) notes by Dendy prepared for the purposes of Toronto Walking Tours which were given by him. Each set of notes relates to a different area of Toronto. Other items include Toronto walking tour guides produced by the North Toronto Historical Society, the Central Y.M.C.A., Toronto, and other bodies. Photocopies from books and clippings re certain areas of Toronto are also contained in this file. Additionally this file includes maps of many different areas of Toronto, as well as many brochures and leaflets relating primarily to walking tours of different areas of Toronto.
