Barrett was known to have believed Chatterton's Rowley story and to have published the information as fact, before the scandal broke.

Bertram R. Davis "Robert Southey" Collection.

The collection centres on Robert Southey and Bristol and gives an overview of the social, political, and literary upheaval which gave birth to the Romantic movement and shaped the rest of the nineteenth century. The collection also contains material on Spain, Portugal and Brazil, Russia and Napoleon, France and the Revolution, as well as numerous works on travel in the British Isles and elsewhere. Also present is a selection of twentieth-century works which elucidate Bertram Davis' interests, friendships, and scholarly connections.

Almost all of Robert Southey's published works are represented, and almost all of these are in the first edition. Several works were formerly owned by Robert Southey.

The University of Waterloo has published a catalogue of the collection: Catalogue of the Bertram R. Davis "Robert Southey" Collection compiled by Jane Britton (PR4467 .U55x 1990).

Catcott, George : Chattertonian Manuscript.

File consists of a typed transcription of the Chattertonian Manuscript, possibly by George Catcott. The manuscript is comprised of works by Chatterton, a history of the Rowley affair, letters from Chatterton to Catcott, with notes by Catcott throughout. This typed copy has been bound together with an index and table of contents. In the front of the book is laid in a signature of Thomas Chatterton and its accompanying auction notice, as well as a letter regarding the authenticity of the signature. Also included is a print showing George Catcott.

Chatterton, Thomas : Aella: A Tragical Interlude.

File consists of one copy of Thomas Chatterton's play "Aella" along with a program from when the play was performed at Colston's School for the 200th anniversary of Chatterton's death. Chatterton attended Colston's School and wrote Aella immediately after leaving. This production was the first time it was performed, and was transcribed by Basil Cottle. File also includes ten photographs of the play being performed.

Includes articles and photocopies, two photographs of Chatterton House (which has since been torn down), a programme for the dedication of Chatterton House, a report on the Chatterton memorial and proposition for a new one, a copy of "A New Catalogue of Chatterton MS Material", Chatterton: A Monologue, notes by Davis, a chronology of Rowley, a poem attributed to Rowley, and information on a potential Chatterton portrait by Gainsborough.

Chattertonian Manuscript

File consists of one manuscript titled "Chattertonian ms." The manuscript itself is a transcribed typed copy of the original, which was compiled and written by George Catcott. Catcott was the first person to be approached by Chatterton regarding the Thomas Rowley poems. The manuscript includes passages from works by Thomas Chatterton, letters to and from Catcott and Chatterton, as well as notes by Catcott on Chatterton and the Thomas Rowley affair. Inlaid in the front of the book is a signature of Thomas Chatterton's as well as a letter addressing the authenticity of the signature. Also included is a print of George Catcott. The bookplate reads "Conrad P. Fry oneth me is me jure tenet, and this booke confesse to be quieunque me invenit."

Untitled note in Coleridge's hand. Original envelope states "Autograph of Coleridge with Southey's attestation." (Nothing in Southey's hand) 2 pages on one sheet. "Now placed in vol. II of S.T. Coleridges Poet & Dramatic Works - page 86. Side by side with the poem it gives in ms. E. Dowden July 30, 1883." Dowden was a distinguished early scholar in the Romantic movement.

Davis, Bertram R. : Thomas Chatterton 1752-1770 A Lecture at the Opening of Chatterton House, Redcliffe.

File consists of a transcription of a lecture given by Bertram R Davis on Thomas Chatterton for the opening of Chatterton House on October 20, 1958. The transcript shows edits and changed by Davis. Also includes a portion of a revised transcript. Chatterton house has since been torn down and the commemorative plaque from the occasion has been moved to the office building now on the lot.
