Files containing primarily historical and biographical material on the Canadian Women's Press Club Branches across the country. They contain some correspondence, typescripts, ephemera, clippings, and many photocopied documents and news items. Most are items gathered by or sent to Kay Rex.

Group portraits and snapshots of members of the Canadian Women's Press Club on a European tour in 1955 including Marjorie Oliver, Alva McColl, Lillian Foster, Marjorie McEnaney, Margaret Zieman and Marjory Freeman. Photos include members posing in front of site visit locations such as the Eiffle Tower, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe building and the West German Lookout Point, and more casual shots of members eating at restaurants.

Photocopied documents 1940-1971, some from the Public Archives of Canada, as well as a small amount of original material. Includes correspondence from 1940, 1941, 1945 regarding wartime conditions, arrangements for meetings, correspondence from members, notes and correspondence carbons regarding trip to Soviet Union, 1955, photocopies of Executive Circulars, photocopy of the undated Brief of the Canadian Women's Press Club to the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, ephemera, minutes, notes, mailing lists, photocopy of the C.W.P.C submission to the Royal Commission on the Status of Women dated April, 1968.

Scrapbook compiled by Sybil Watts Smith relating to the C.W.P.C Triennial Conference that took place in Vancouver from June 20-24, 1949. This scrapbook contains predominantly newsclippings and b&w photographs. It also contains the souvenir program produced/or this triennial conference, as well as the programs/menus for the dinners hosted for the C.W.P.C delegates in Vancouver by Eaton's, by the “Vancouver Sun” and by the Province Ontario. Also included in this file are maps of the Vancouver area, a guidebook to Vancouver, and ephemera. Other materials include a ribbon, which was most likely worn by C.W.P.C members on board the H.M.C.S. Crescent, the ship that brought conference delegates from Vancouver to Victoria.

The photographs depict sites in Vancouver, Victoria, as well as other places in B.C. and in Alberta that the conference delegates saw on their travels through Western Canada. Also shown here are photographs taken on board the H.M.C.S Crescent.

The clippings report on the events which constituted the Triennial Conference of the C.W.P.C. in Vancouver including the presentations given by various speakers, discussions about the C.W.P.C 's Memorial Award open to women journalists in all fields of writing, the Oriental Sun dinner, and the trip made by conference delegates to Victoria on the H.M.C.S Crescent.

The scrapbook also includes articles on prominent women journalists who attended the conference including Isabel Dingman, the only woman journalism instructor at the time, and Annie Mathewson, women's editor of The Gleaner, who received a scroll at the conference in recognition of half a century in the Fourth Estate.

Also among these clippings is an article on Marie Holmes editor of Chatelaine Magazine and Director of the Chatelaine Institute. This scrapbook also contains a column written by Eva-Lis Wuorio, Maclean's Magazine writer, in the New Westerner. She attended the conference also and in this column writes about her impressions of the West Coast comparing it to East Coast Canada.

Other articles that appeared in the local newspapers during the conference focus on the impressions made by the visiting women journalists including male reporters' views on the visitors.

Loose items contained in this scrapbook include a letter written by Sybil Watts Smith, the compiler of this scrapbook, to Kay Rex, on Feb. 24, 1993 stating that enclosed are two packages containing negatives that Kay Rex requested. These include three negatives of Clarice Tapson from about 1950 and 9 negatives from the C.W.P.C Triennial Conference on the West Coast in 1949.

Also includes five b&w photographs taken at a C.W.P.C conference in Ottawa in 1947. Individuals are identified in all photographs.

Scrapbook of photographs, news clippings and ephemera collected by the Toronto branch of the Canadian Women's Press Club regarding their activities and members from 1967-1968. Photographs predominantly document social events, including Club member's attendance at the Triennial event in Vancouver and subsequent travel through British Columbia with stops in Powell River and Nanaimo, as well as fashion shows and lunches held at 44 York. Also included are clippings regarding Claire Wallace, women working in public relations, and claims of discrimination against women at the CBC [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation], as well as a column by Josephine Sappor regarding the involvement of women in the visioning of a new constitution for Ghana.

Includes news coverage about a luncheon poisoning, as well as a program and menu from Golden Jubilee celebrations held in Toronto June 22-June 25, 1954 at the King Edward Hotel.

Scrapbook of news clippings, ephemera and photographs collected by the Toronto branch of the Canadian Women's Press Club regarding their activities and members from 1967-1968. Many of the clippings and photographs are in regards to the CWPC's Centennial Press Seminar, a three-day event held at the University of Toronto June 19-21, 1967, attended by writers from 35 countries. Included is a seminar program, brief biographies of each of the international attendees, and a November 1967 edition of Newspacket dedicated to coverage of the event. Coloured photos taken by Jean Hibbert include typed annotations with the names and origin countries of the people in each shot. Also in the scrapbook are annotated photos documenting the move to a new Club location at 44 York in Toronto.

Scrapbook compiled by the Vancouver Island Branch of the C.W.P.C relating to the C.W.P.C Triennial Conference which took place in Vancouver from June 20-24, 1949 and other themes. This scrapbook contains predominantly newsclippings and b&w photographs. Some correspondence is also included in this scrapbook.

The first section of this scrapbook contains materials relating to the 1949 Triennial Conference of the C.W.P.C in West Coast Canada. There is much overlap between the materials contained in this scrapbook compiled by the Vancouver Island Branch of the C.W.P.C. and those contained in a second C.W.P.C scrapbook, which is devoted exclusively to the Triennial Event (see file 5).

The photographs and clippings relate to the events which constituted the Triennial Conference of the C.W.P.C. in Vancouver including the award of Memorial Gold medals to Dorothy Howarth and Lotta Dempsey Fisher by the C.W.P.C during the government dinner held in honour of the conference delegates in Victoria, as well as to the Oriental Sun Dinner held for the visiting women journalists, and to the delegates trip on board the H.M.C.S. Crescent which transported them from Vancouver to Victoria.

Scrapbook compiled by the Vancouver Island Branch of the C.W.P.C relating to the life and achievements of Dorothy Taylor, women journalist, Past President of the Canadian Women's Press Club, prizewinning breeder of livestock and other animals, and world traveler. This scrapbook contains predominantly newsclippings reporting on Miss Taylor's lifetime achievements.

Many of these articles report on Miss Taylor's achievements as editor and publisher of the British Columbian newspaper. Some of the articles in this scrapbook relate to Miss Taylor's appointment as President of the C.W.P.C in 1954 and on her work and activities as president of the club. Other articles report on her being awarded the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Achievement Award in 1954.

A large number of the articles combine reports on Miss Taylor's journalistic success with reports on the awards she has won during her lifetime as a champion breeder of livestock, chicken, horses, and Irish terriers.
Other articles describe her international travels including her tour of Central America with her car and her dogs. This was one of the first trips made by car over the Pan-American Highway. A few articles report on her trip to the U.K. where she witnessed the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Another article refers to her trip in the Pyrenees on a donkey and her tour of Britanny on a bicycle.

The clippings contained in this file also include articles written by Dorothy Taylor covering the visit of French author Paul Visalar to Vancouver, in addition to travel reports written during her six-week tour of Mexico, Texas, and California.

This scrapbook also contains a photograph taken at the ninth World's Poultry Congress in Paris in 1951 depicting Miss Taylor and other attendees. Some correspondence relating to the C.W.P.C biennial convention in 1956 is also contained in this scrapbook. Other materials include correspondence received from the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club in April 1959 informing Miss Taylor that her Jersey bull Charita is a prizewinner in the club's agricultural fair, as well as correspondence relating to the ninth World's Poultry Congress in Paris in 1951.
This scrapbook also contains a letter to Dorothy Taylor dated May 3, 1954 from the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity informing her that she is to be awarded a Kappa Kappa Gamma Achievement Award.

Other items contained in this scrapbook include a press release by the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club in 1959 reporting on Dorothy Taylor's achievements as a champion cattle breeder, in addition to a certificate stating that the jersey bull, Charita has qualified as a superior sire. Also included in this scrapbook is a Certificate of Membership of the American Poultry Association belonging to Dorothy Taylor, as well as a program for a horseracing event at Lansdowne Park in Vancouver, B.C. on July 1952. This scrapbook also contains a pin that was worn by Dorothy Taylor at the 21st Royal Winter Fair in 1949.

A program for the Spring Dinner of the Canadian Federation of University Women in May 1954 at which Dorothy Taylor was a guest speaker is also contained in this scrapbook, as well as a certificate stating that Miss Taylor was a guest speaker of the Kiwanis Club of New Westminster in British Columbia in 1953.

Loose items in this file include photographs that appear to have belonged to Bea Hamilton of the Vancouver Island Branch of C.W.P.C. This includes 16 b&w photographs and 12 b&w negatives. It is not clear where these photographs were taken. It appears, however, that they may have been taken during meetings, trips, and social activities of the Vancouver Island Branch of the C.W.P.C in the 1960s. Individuals are identified in a small number of photographs.
The other loose item in this file is a photocopy of an excerpt from Kay Rex's book No Daughter of Mine: The Women and History of the Canadian Women's Press Club, 1904-1971 (Toronto: Toronto University Press, 1995). This section of the book includes biographical information on Kathleen (Kit) Coleman, Agnes Dean Cameron, and Byrne Hope Sanders.

This is one of three folders (see files 2-4) which belonged to Estelle Craig, Project Chairman of the Centennial Project of the Canadian Women's Press Club (C.W.P.C). This file contains correspondence dated 1966. Also contained in this file is the C.W.P.C Feasibility Report that was compiled for the Centennial Commission in 1966. Other materials included in this file include a proposed program of events for the centennial project, minutes of meetings of various Centennial Project Committee meetings, which took place in 1966, C.W.P.C Centennial Project Progress Reports, a Centennial Project Annual Report, and a Treasurer's Report. Additionally this file contains lists of names of foreign journalists who have accepted invitations to date, and lists of names added to the invitation list. This file also contains press releases on the Centennial Project for the club's newsletter “Newspacket” and for other Canadian press publications, and an article by Helen Palmer on the Centennial Project that appeared in the “Toronto Daily” on April 28, 1967.

Correspondence in this file includes letters and internal C.W.P.C memos. Much of this correspondence was conducted between members of the Centennial Project's National Executive Committee members. This National Executive was established in April 1966. The President of the Executive was the C.W.P.C. National President, Elva Fletcher. Other key members whose correspondence is contained in this file include Helen Marsh, the Co-coordinating National Chairman, Estelle Craig, the Project Chairman, Jo Carson, the Project Vice-Chairman, Lyn Harrington, the Secretary, and Margaret Cragg, the Program Committee Chairman. The subject areas covered in this correspondence include forthcoming and previous meetings of the Executive, measures to be undertaken to publicize the project, developments regarding the program of events for the project, and matters regarding issuing of invitations to this event. Another subject covered includes the communications made by the Project Committee with the Centennial Commission regarding government support for this project.

This file also contains some correspondence received from the Information Division of the Department of External Affairs regarding progress made in contacting foreign journalists through the Canadian Embassies and Consulates abroad.

Finally, this file includes a letter of invitation to the Secretary of State, Judy LaMarsh from Elva Fletcher inviting her to address the first formal dinner at the centennial event on June 19, 1967. A letter of acceptance from Ms. LaMarsh is also contained in this file.

This is one of three folders (see files 2-4) which belonged to Estelle Craig, Project Chairman of the Centennial Project of the Canadian Women's Press Club (C.W.P.C).

The idea for a Centennial Project originated with the Toronto Branch of C.W.P.C as early as 1963. The focal point of the project was a seminar held in Toronto from June 19-June 23, 1967 entitled "Journalism and World Understanding". Journalists from all over the world were invited to attend. In addition to the seminar, the project also embraced tours of Canada organized by the various branches of the Club. Approval and assistance were sought and then given to the C.W.P.C by the Federal Government's Centennial Commission and by the Department of External Affairs. Journalists from many different countries in Europe, the Caribbean, South America, Australia, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Southeast Asia attended this centennial event hosted by the C.W.P. C in June and July of 1967.

This file contains predominantly correspondence addressed either to or from the Centennial Project Chairman, Estelle Craig, and dated 1964 or 1965. In other words, these materials relate to the earliest stages of the Centennial Project including the initial proposal, and documents relevant to the first stages of organization and planning. Also included in this file are minutes of a meeting of the Toronto Branch Centennial Project Committee to discuss the project that took place on June 28, 1965 and of further meeting of this committee held on Sept. JO, 1965 that was attended by the C.W.P.C. National President, Simonne Daigneault.

A considerable amount of the correspondence contained in this file was conducted between Simonne Daigneault and Estelle Craig. In April 1964, Ms. Craig sent a brief outline of the project proposal of the Toronto Branch to the National President for review by the National Executive. This project was subsequently approved at national level by the C.W.P.C. Other correspondence from 1964 and 1965 relates to plans to set up meetings between Simonne Daigneault, Estelle Craig, Margaret Cragg (President of the Toronto Branch) and other committee members to discuss the centennial project. Additional correspondence between Estelle Craig and Simonne Daigneault relates to further proposals for and progress made in the Centennial Project.

Some correspondence in this file includes letters exchanged between Hon. Paul Martin, Secretary of State for External Affairs and Margaret Cragg of the C.W.P.C. Ms. Cragg informs Mr. Martin of the C.W.P.C's plans for a Centennial Project and asks for the cooperation and support of the Department of External Affairs. Mr. Martin replies that his Department will be glad to help by establishing contacts with foreign journalists on behalf of the C.W.P.C. Indeed, also contained in this file is correspondence between the information Division of the Department of External Affairs and the National Club President, Simonne Daigneault, and the Project Chairman, Estelle Craig, regarding the progress this Department has made in establishing contact with foreign journalists through Canadian Embassies and Consulates abroad. Lists of contact details and in some cases biographies of these journalists are forwarded to the C.W.P.C by the Information Division of the Department of External Affairs.

Other materials include correspondence from 1964-1965 between Estelle Craig and John Fisher, Chairman of the Centennial Commission. The Commission expressed their support for this project in 1964. This file contains letters written in 1964 to John Fisher from Ms. Craig keeping him abreast of progress that the C.W.P.C have made in arrangements for the project and asking him if he will meet with members of the club to discuss details further. A meeting is set up with Dr. Houle, Director of Public Relations in Jan. 1965. Subsequently the Commission agrees to provide funding of $5,000 for the project. In Oct. 1965, Ms. Craig sends a letter to John Fisher to inform him of further progress made on the project. She requests that a meeting might be set up with Mr. Fisher to discuss the details of organizing the project further.

Also contained in this file is an item that seems to constitute part of the research of Kay Rex for her book “No Daughter of Mine: The Women and History of the Canadian Women's Press Club, 1904-1971” (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1995). These notes appear to summarize the contents of materials contained in folders relating to the C.W.P.C Centennial Project (see files 2-4).

Additionally, this file includes agendas and minutes of various Centennial Project Committee meetings, Progress Reports (in the form of lists of additional invitation acceptances by foreign journalists), Centennial Project Reports (including the Annual Report), and a Treasurer's Report. This file also includes a Report on Resolutions passed at the Triennial meeting of the C.W.P.C in Vancouver that were approved by the Toronto Branch and were then submitted to the national for consideration. Also contained among these file materials are guest lists for the Centennial Project, biographies of visiting journalists, and a Centennial Project questionnaire and draft letter to be sent to the visiting journalists. Materials also include a preliminary program for the seminar event (June 19-21, 1967), a day-by-day program of all events to be scheduled for the visitors in Toronto, and a bus schedule for the Toronto event. This file also includes an article that appeared in the serial "Citizen" in June 1967 focusing on the Centennial Project of the C.W.P.C.

Correspondence in this file includes both letters and internal C.W.P.C memos. A large amount of correspondence in this file includes letters exchanged between the Centennial Project Chairman, Estelle Craig, and the National President, Elva Fletcher. This correspondence relates to final organizational matters that need to be attended to in the run-up to the club's centennial event in June and July of 1967 including transportation of invitees to Canada, insurance for the visiting journalists, the program of events in Toronto, and other matters. Elva Fletcher keeps Estelle Craig and Phyl Woods (Transportation Chairman) abreast of acceptances of invitations by journalists and of their travel arrangements. Other items of correspondence include letters exchanged between members of the National Project Committee and members of the Toronto Branch of the C.W.P.C Project Committee regarding planning and organizational details for the centennial event. This file also includes some correspondence with the individual branches of the C.W.P.C including the Ottawa Branch who are responsible for organizing programs of events in their areas for the visiting journalists. Other letters contained in this file pertain to the reservation of accommodations for the visiting journalists in Canada, and the reservation of the Museum Theatre in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto for one evening during the centennial event.

Finally, this file contains correspondence sent to C.W.P.C members from the Centennial Project Committee. This includes letters informing members of the impending centennial event and enclosing registration forms for the seminar. Also among the materials in this file is a form letter sent to C.W.P.C members regarding the upcoming centennial event and appealing for volunteers for the committees that need help in the organization of the Toronto seminar.

Correspondence, itineraries, memos, notes, etc. regarding preparations for a tour of the Soviet Union and also regarding use of film footage taken while there. Includes passenger manifest of members who participated in the trip and a typed "List of Coloured Slides taken in Russia June 26-July 7, 1955" by Reta Myers of Vancouver, indicating the photos "cover airflight from Prague to Moscow... Leningrad... Sochi... Stallingrad."

Includes meeting agendas, open line newsletter, business meeting minutes, executive meeting minutes, correspondence, by-laws, forms, finance information, officer lists of duties and reports, and material relating to the book Careers in Writing, etc.

This appears to have formed one of the research folders used by Kay Rex for the purposes of researching for her book “No Daughter of Mine: The Women and History of the Canadian Women’s Press Club, 1904-1971” (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1995).

This folder contains printed materials issued by the C.W.P.C including a flyer (1965?) containing a brief resume of the history of the club, and a booklet entitled “Pathfinders” authored by Miriam Green Ellis and published by the C.W.P.C. This booklet contains biographical information on some of the prominent C.W.P.C members from its earliest days including Emily Murphy, Agnes Maule Macha, Susanna Moodie, Genevieve Lipsell Sinker, Katherine Hale, Kennethe M. Haig, Mae Clendenan, Elizabeth Bailey Price, Irene Moore, Marshall Saunders, Annie E. Mathewson, E. Cora Hind, Violet McNaughton, and Nellie L. McClung. A flyer produced by the Media Club of Canada Inc. and featuring information on this club is also contained in this file. Also included in this file is the Golden Jubilee (1904-1954) publication of “Newspacket”, a C.W.P.C publication. This issue of “Newspacket” serves as a record of the history of the first fifty years of the C.W.P.C.

Other items in this file include articles written by Kay Rex herself, which appeared in two different serials in 1980 and 1990 respectively. The article from 1980 reports on the beginnings of the Newspaper Guild in Canada and was written on the 47th International Convention of this Guild in 1980. The second article from 1990 is from an April issue of “The Byliner” and focuses on Emily Murphy, a journalist and fifth national president of the C.W.P.C who fought for women's rights in Canada.

Also contained in this file is a request for information on C.W.P.C members from anyone who has been associated with the club or has had relatives who were members. Kay Rex placed this request in the May/June 1987 issue of “Content”.

This file also contains articles on prominent C.W.P.C members that appeared in various journals. This includes an article by Robin Rowland from 1978 about Kathleen Blake "Kit 11 Coleman, prominent female journalist with the “Mail and Empire”, the world's first accredited woman war correspondent, and first president of the C.W.P.C. A second article by Barbara Freeman from 1994 focuses on the history of female journalism.

Finally, this file contains a list of individuals who were interviewed by Kay Rex for the purposes of her book on the C.W.P.C published in 1995.

This was a project to build a computerized database of biographical information about notable Canadian women, for which the Media Club received a Grant from the Minister of National Health and Welfare. It was done in honour of International Women's Year.

Included are media releases about the Club's name change, a copy of McGraw-Hill's Guidelines for Equal Treatment of the Sexes, and a list of delegates at the Media 72 conference. Also in the scrapbook are articles about the state of media in Canada, including the struggles of ethnic presses, information about talks by Gloria Steinam and Margaret Sloan at the national convention, and biographical information about Edna Jacques, Betty Jewel Canning, Alva McColl and Kate Aitken.

A gold pin, once owned by Florence Steiner, an early member of the Toronto Branch of the C. W.P. C which was founded in 1909. This pin was later passed on to Florence Steiner's niece, Florence (King) Blackwell, who belonged first to the Montreal Branch of the C. W.P.C and later to the Toronto Branch.

The other two pins contained in this file are sterling silver and are from Birks Jewellers. They belonged to members of the Toronto Branch of the club but it is not clear what period they date from.

Membership directories for 1960-1961 and 1969-1970. Entries include name, professional affiliation, mailing address and phone number. Each directory includes a note indicating they are for the convenience of club members only and are not to be circulated outside of the club.

Scrapbook relating to the trip made by nine Canadian C.W.P.C. members to the United Kingdom as the guests of the Dollar sterling Trade Board of Canada and the Dollar Export Board. Included are news clippings of coverage about the trip, as well as dispatches from the attendees, including typescript radio reports filed by Joan Marshall. Also in the scrapbook is correspondence, a photograph of an unidentified woman and a Christmas card "From the Nine Lady Journalists."

The journalists who made the trip were: Byrne Hope Saunders, Reta W. Myers, Margaret Aitken, Kay Rex, Joan Marshall, Pat Wallace, Pearl L'Ami, Maud Kerr, and Armande Marc.

Compiled by Marjorie Oliver, the scrapbook contains material on the 1954 Golden Jubilee of the Canadian Women's Press Club, followed by the overseas tour of Europe and the Continent in 1955 of 72 Club members. Includes a June 24, 1955 group portrait stamped "NATO Unclassified". Verso of photograph reads: "Members of the Canadian Women's Press Club today visited Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. They were welcomed and briefed by General Alfred M. Gruenther, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and by other SHAPE officers."

Invitation and announcements regarding the Women's Press Club of Toronto's 10th Anniversary Gala held on April 11, 1986 at Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto. A panel featuring Lydia Dotto, Vicki Gabereau, Kay Staib and Jan Tennant, moderated by Toronto Star Editorial Writer Margaret Weiers was advertised as part of the promotions.

Correspondence, drafts, notes of Kay Rex, regarding Winnipeg Branch and biographical information about members, including Elizabeth Long, Pearl L'Ami, Miriam Green Ellis, and Abbie Sharman. Contains original clippings from the 1950's and photocopies of early material ca. 1904-1913, 1950's, including a photocopy of the June 25, 1904 Mail and Empire announcing the formation of the Canadian Women's Press Club, as well as photocopied material from the National Archives and the Provincial Archives of Manitoba.

Fonds consists of materials created and accumulate by the Women's Press Club of Toronto for the years 1976-1981 that document their organizational operations and activities. Comprised of three binders kept by members of the executive committee which include business meeting minutes, executive meeting minutes, correspondence, newsletters, and more.

Group portraits and snap shots of members, many in historical costumes, taken during a gala at Sutton Place in 1986 by Christine Marshall-Smith. Photos of panelists Jan Tennant, Margaret Weiers, Lydia Dotto and Vicki Gabareau are included. Oversize photograph (28 x 38 cm) is blown up, partially coloured black and white group shot of Doris Whiteside, Laddie Dennis, Roberta Corey, Corinne Nemy and Ruth Hammond in historical costumes.

Fonds contains materials collected by and sent to Kay Rex for the purpose of writing a history of the Canadian Women's Press Club, as well as records of the Toronto Branch given into her keeping when the Club ceased operation. These were intended for eventual deposit at the University of Waterloo to join the book collection of the C.W.P.C. which was donated to the Doris Lewis Rare Book Room in 1977.

The fonds consists of records documenting Toronto Branch operation during the period of the 1960's to 1980's, including constitution and by-laws, correspondence 1965-1991, minutes of regular and executive meetings, 1968-1989, a file on the closing of the Club's premises at 44 York St., Toronto, and scrapbooks of club activities and personalities. Historical materials include textual records, photographs, publications and scrapbooks. The earliest scrapbook is dated 1921 and contains biographies and photographs of members. Trips taken by C.W.P.C members in 1950 and 1955 to the United Kingdom, Europe and Russia are documented through members' files, photographs, and scrapbooks.

The library of the Toronto Branch of the Canadian Women's Press Club is made up of presentation copies of books written by and donated by the club's members in addition to books published by significant Canadian women writers. There are over 200 books in the collection.

Included are works by such well-known figures as Mabel Dunham, Emily Murphy, Marjorie Freeman Campbell, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and Katherine Hale. Also present are a number of books presented to the club by notable Canadian figures. Included are a copy of John Buchan's The Three Hostages, which he presented on October 23, 1924 "in memory of a delightful visit", Igor Gouzenko's The Fall of a Titan, which contains not only a lengthy presentation inscription but also a sketch done by him, and a signed copy of the first Canadian edition of Mazo de la Roche's Jalna.

Also included are a number of scarce children's stories in a Canadian setting, a copy of The National Ballet autographed by Margot Fonteyn, and an early biographical directory, Morgan's Types of Canadian Women, published in 1903.
